Nanometri in the sunlight in the light of facts: the lights of science

2018

“LUX | 770 Nanometri” is a multidisciplinary show engaging adults and children in the discovery of objects of scientific investigation, constantly making questions in order to stimulate curiosity. Science education, theatre and multimedia merge to create a performance able to convey, thanks to the work of the actor, the audio-visual planning and the specific and structured study of lights, the wonder of discovery, the necessity of research, the effort of theory.

That’s how, from a single dazzling pulsation, our universe took shape. Since the dawn of time we are submerged by waves. We are, because we are in light: between infra-red and ultra-violet stands the world we can move into and know. Every apparently banal action hides a world of forces that rule it and which our body and being respond to. Beyond there is darkness, the existence of paradox, the infinite range of possible variations. We coexist with these laws way before studying them at school and we do it instinctively, through experience and observation. Given that <>=1, any question is valid and reasonable: why does the pigeon move its head when walking? How far can I see vertically? What happens when we aren’t here? Balances constantly appear in the world, creating border areas within which we must indagate.

PHYSICS EXPLAINED TO CHILDREN

What is the meaning of a physical formula explained to a child? And what if the formula becomes a theatre playwright? The show begins like this: The Born Law, one of the principles of quantum physics, stated with disarming (s)objectivity. From this point forward, a path of experiments begins, with which the actor accompanies the children to discover the basic principles regulating the world of light and sound. A series of tests is submitted to the audience, who can personally verify how physics echoes in their everyday life. Science is not to be looked at, it is to be experiments. For this work the actor exits the stage to involve those who are looking at him. Interaction and fun are the best ways to understand. Understanding is the best way to learn. And if formulas give us answers on the origin of the world, we must not forget the questions opening from them. Our brain is forced to recreate every single picture because the eye has a blind corner in its visual field. Therefore, everyone sees what he wants? Or what he believes in?
